Printshop
The course introduces the basics of the manual printing techniques of linocut, etching, and silkscreen. Through applied experimentation, participants will be introduced to techniques of the printing workshop.
Ghost in the Machine
In a world in which everyday technology has become so complex that internal states and entanglements with the physical world and the world of the spirit cannot be understood by individuals, it is necessary to find new ways to engage with it. We must understand by sensing that which we cannot break down intellectually. We must shake and scratch at what can’t be explained until it makes a noise, until it releases something in us or gives up its ghost.
Spaces versus spaces
In this photography seminar we will deal with the theme of “counter spaces.” What spaces in our lives let us leave our daily lives behind? How can we transform one space into another? We will document our observations and spatial interventions using analog black-and-white photography. In the process, we will practice using an analog single-lens reflex camera and gain an introduction to the chemical processes of negative development and enlargement in the darkroom.
Nude Studies
In this course you will use artistic means to study the human body, its proportions and weight when standing, sitting, lying, and in motion. You will observe the interaction between body and space.
Your nude studies are notes on your observations and perceptions of a counterpart: the nude model and the space.
funny, not funny
Smiling, laughing, laughing at. Do we need humor and comedy? And if so, why? What kind of humor is needed in times of crisis?
In this seminar we will deal with humorous artistic approaches and the question of how humor is used. What inspires us to laugh, and what happens when we do?
Drawing time, folding space
What to draw? Why to draw? Work on various exercises and presentations on selected contemporary artistic approaches (e.g. Silvia Bächli, Joelle Tuerlinckx, Matt Mullican, Matthew Barney) is meant to form the basis for an individual process that will allow us to approach the medium of drawing and the possibilities for its transformation in three dimensional space. An engagement with graphic techniques, from written notation to line to figure and body, is the foundation of the experimental search for a personal artistic language which can be found in drawing but which also offers us encouragement in the exploration of other media and methods. Building on this discourse, students will create an independent creative work.

A small brook called the Duden flows through their town, providing them with necessary rules. Filler texts are beyond even the rule of all-powerful punctuation—it is a downright unorthographic life…
Color Dependent
We wouldn’t bite into a blue apple, we’d prefer not to swim in yellow water, we might not feel comfortable for long in a room painted red.
Our visual perception, our seeing and recognition of forms, materials, our sense of space—are dependent on color. Why? What happens when we perceive color? What is color in the first place? Is color necessary? Can we measure color?
