Course
In this seminar we will investigate the ghost in the machine. With the simple means made popular by the “do-it-yourself” movement, we will create kinetic objects and consider the sounds and effects they make. This will also include experimenting with electronic and artificial intelligence.
These practical investigations will culminate in the development of our own machine and will be accompanied by consideration of works by artists and theorists who have made important contributions to this field. Since we will also be working with microcontrollers in this course, a laptop is required. In special cases laptops can also be borrowed. No prior knowledge of electronics or programming is necessary.
