Elective module
Course
In spite of the unmistakable importance of digitization and the impressive possibilities it offers for architecture as well as other fields, the “old” world will never be replaced by new media as long as we still have bodies.
Therefore, now as before, the analog experience of contact with the hardware of architecture, the (building) materials, is an indispensable component of an education in the field of architecture.
In this case, the material will be metal (primarily steel), and we will use it to develop objects and sculptures according to the possibilities our small metal workshop offers. In the interplay between the concrete experience of the material in the workshop and conceptual design using sketches, drawings, and working models, participants will design their own metal sculptures, whose formal repertoire will emerge primarily out of the specific constraints and possibilities of the material and the ways it can be worked in the context of this module and the technical skills of the students.
Should the continuance of the Corona pandemic make working in the metal workshop impossible, we will begin our engagement with other materials.
Sturdy work shoes, work gloves, safety goggles, etc. are required, depending on the specific project!
